Frequently asked questions
Everything you might want to know before the first call
Starting therapy involves a lot of small practical unknowns on top of the big emotional one. Here are the answers, in plain language. If your question isn’t here, email me and I’ll answer it directly.
Getting started
How do I get started?
Click the Free Consultation button or reach out by phone or email to schedule a brief call where we can discuss what you’re needing and how we might work together. If it feels like a good fit, I’ll send intake paperwork through a secure portal where you can see your appointments and log in to virtual sessions. Those coming in person get a separate email with directions.
How long is the free consultation, and what happens on it?
****PLACEHOLDER**** Answer: how long the free consultation runs, whether it is phone or video, what you cover in it, and whether there is any pressure to book afterwards. Confirm the length matches your Calendly event.
What happens in a first session?
****PLACEHOLDER**** Answer: what actually happens in a first session, and what — if anything — you want someone to prepare beforehand.
Who do you work with?
****PLACEHOLDER**** Answer: who you work with, and who you do not. Be specific enough that wrong-fit enquiries filter themselves out before they reach your inbox.
Sessions & logistics
How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?
All sessions are 50 minutes and we meet weekly on an ongoing basis. This is collaborative: you have full autonomy to decide when you’ve met your goals, and we assess progress together along the way.
Do you offer bi-weekly sessions?
Not to start. Once rapport has been built and progress has been made over the first few months, we can discuss whether it would be clinically appropriate — though in my experience weekly work is usually more effective.
Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?
Both. I offer virtual therapy across California and in-person therapy at my office in Eagle Rock, in Northeast Los Angeles.
What is your cancellation policy?
****PLACEHOLDER**** Answer: your real cancellation policy — notice period, what is charged, any exceptions. This must match your intake paperwork word for word.
How long does therapy usually last?
****PLACEHOLDER**** Answer: how long therapy typically runs with you, how progress gets reviewed, and how you handle endings.
Fees & insurance
How much do sessions cost?
Individual and Somatic EMDR sessions are $225, and couples sessions are $250.
Do you take insurance?
I don’t accept insurance directly, but I can provide a Superbill for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
What is a Superbill, and how do I use it?
****PLACEHOLDER**** Answer: what a Superbill is, how and when you provide it, and what you want clients to ask their insurer before starting.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
I hold a set number of sliding-scale spots; please inquire about availability.
Somatic EMDR
What is Somatic EMDR, and how is it different from traditional EMDR?
Somatic EMDR combines the established eight-phase EMDR framework with body awareness, nervous system regulation, and attention to physical sensation. Alongside reprocessing distressing memories through bilateral stimulation, we help the nervous system recognize that the threat has passed. Read the full guide to somatic EMDR →
Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?
****PLACEHOLDER**** Answer: how much a client actually has to say out loud during EMDR.
Can EMDR be done virtually?
Yes, using on-screen bilateral stimulation or self-administered tapping. It requires a private space and a stable connection.
Couples therapy
Do both partners need to attend every session?
****PLACEHOLDER**** Answer: your policy on both partners attending, and when you would see one partner alone.
What if one of us is more reluctant?
****PLACEHOLDER**** Answer: how you handle it when one partner is reluctant — in your own words, drawn from actual cases.
Can I see you individually and as a couple?
****PLACEHOLDER**** Answer: your policy on seeing someone both individually and as a couple, and what you offer instead.
Privacy
Is what I share confidential?
****PLACEHOLDER**** Answer: confidentiality and its limits in California. Please state these in the exact wording your consent form uses.
Does this website collect my information?
No. There are no forms on this site. Scheduling happens through a separate booking tool, and clinical records are kept in a HIPAA-compliant system entirely separate from this website.
Still have a question?
The consultation call exists exactly for this. Fifteen minutes, no cost, no commitment.
